By plane

The closest airports are Rostock, Hamburg and Berlin.

  1. Rostock-Laage Airport is 28 km distant from the city center.
    The Airport Shuttle (bus number 127, operated by Rebus) provides transport from the airport to the main bus station (ZOB) in Rostock.
  2. Hamburg Airport is approximately 180 km distant from Rostock. Local train S11 (S-Bahn) provides transport from the airport to the main train station in Hamburg (Hauptbahnhof), as well as to the main bus station (ZOB) which is situated next to it. From the main stations, a train or a bus can be taken directly to Rostock.
  3. Berlin Tegel Airport is approximately 220 km distant from Rostock. TXL JetExpressBus provides transport from the airport to the main train station (Hauptbanhof). From the main station, a direct train to Rostock can be taken.
    ZOB (Central bus station) in Berlin can be reached by local transport from the main train station. From there, a direct bus can be taken to Rostock.

By train

Rostock is well-connected by train to other German cities as well as to some international destinations. The main train station (Hauptbanhof) is situated in the centre of the city.

By bus

Various remote buses control Rostock. Long-distance buses arrive at the bus station (ZOB), which is located south of the main station. From here you can take the tram lines 2, 3, 5 and 6 to the individual venues.

By ferry

  1. Gesder, Denmark – Rostock. This ferry line is operated by Scandlines.
  2. Trelleborg, Sweden – Rostock. This ferry line is operated by Stenaline and TT-line.

Rostock public transportation connects ferry terminals with the city center.

Get around the city

Rostock features a good inner-city system of trams, buses, S-Bahn (local train) and ferries. All information regarding travel times, tickets and prices can be found at the Verkehrsverbund Warnow.

By car

Rostock is located at the crossing between national motorways A20/E22 (East-West) and A19/E55 (North-South). From the direction of Hamburg, the motorway A1 runs toward Lübeck and from there the A20 to Rostock. If starting in Berlin, the A24 runs in the direction of Hamburg until the  crossing with the A19 which runs toward Rostock.
