HANSEartWORKS Photo exhibit opens

For the past eleven years, HANSEartWORKS has been displaying their pieces on the Hanseatic Day. Every year, the works focus on a different theme. This year, the photos emphasize “Stadt der Zukunft – Future City”. “Capturing a possible picture of the future in a photograph is difficult. I’m eager to see how the artists integrated this idea into their work,” says Markus Schaden, initiator of the Cologne PhotoBookMuseum. In past years, sculptures and videos were also displayed by HANSEartWORKs.

The exhibition in front of the Kröpeliner Tor was opened by Rostock’s mayor Roland Methling togeth with Lübeck’s mayor Jan Lindenau, and Markus Schaden. The Rostock town guard and the Smålands Karoliner – the Småland town guard – accompany them. “The idea for HANSEartWORKS arose spontaneously,” reveals Lindenau smiling, “such projects develop when people come together – even over a beer.”

The exhibit can be viewed by visitors during the Hanseatic Day on the square before the Kröpeliner Tor. Furthermore, it is possible to create your own photobook in the catalog workshop of the PhotoBookMuseum from the hanseatic city Cologne.

An additional art exhibition – the International Hanseatic Exhibition (LINK) – will be open for viewing as of Sunday in the University for Music and Drama. “The exhibition includes artwork from around 70 cities that were created especially for Rostock’s 800th city birthday,” recounts Methling.
